"Today's
ceremony was a time to remember the lives lost on that day in
2001 and reflect on the sacrifice and passion that make America
such a unique and resilient nation," said Agema,
a retired Air Force veteran who was a pilot with American
Airlines on 9/11. "I was honored to be accompanied by Sgt.
Austin and Officer Pearson, whose commitment to protecting our
community is exactly what we wanted to pay tribute to this
afternoon."
Following
the presentation of the colors by a Michigan State Police Honor
Guard, World Trade Center survivor Patrick Anderson gave the
keynote address. Representatives of districts that lost
residents in the attacks read the names of those victims.
The ceremony is expected to become an annual
event in the Michigan House.
