State Rep. Dave Agema recently received an endorsement for his foreign law bill from the American Islamic Leadership Coalition, a multi-state group in Washington, D.C.

            "Despite the attempts of some to take this bill out of context and cast me in a negative light, the endorsement from the American Islamic Leadership Coalition shows there is disagreement among the Muslim community about what this bill is trying to do," said Agema, R-Grandville. "People of all faiths and nationalities come to America to live under our Constitution and our laws. That's exactly what my bill is about: giving American law the final word in American courts."

            House Bill 4769 would prohibit the influence of foreign laws on a judge's decision in an American court. Said Agema, this is a civil rights and equal protection issue.
